Using the terms "Black Mold" and "Toxic Mold"

Saturday, September 27, 2008 by Michael-Bains

In many of my blog entries, I use the terms "Black Mold" and "Toxic Mold" synonymously with just "Mold".  These terms can be a bit of a misnomer.  For the most part, when mold inspections or mold remediations are discussed, the methods used for these services do not differ between "regular" mold and toxic or black mold.

Cephaliophora.jpgAll moisture problems and indoor mold growth should be corrected regardless of the color of the mold growth.  Black mold and toxic mold are terms that were coined to describe one particular type of mold considered by many to be toxic -- Stachybotrys.  There is still much debate on whether this mold is toxic to humans and if so, what exposure levels are required for a person to experience the toxic effects.  This determination is best left to medical professionals.

I use the terms in my blog entries and on the Planet Mold website in order for our site users to find us on the web.  Most people looking for information on mold inspections, mold remediation, and health impacts of mold, use the terms black mold or toxic mold in their search criteria in Google and other search engines.  Were we not to use these terms on our website, many people looking for quality information would not be able to locate our site.
