Extreme Makeover Home Edition Helps Family With Hazardous Mold In Their Home
October 19, 2008 by Joe Reality

On this week’s episode of
Extreme Makeover Home Edition,
Ty Pennington and his team travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to help the King family. The King family runs a daycare center that services the
entire community, but their own home is infected with hazardous mold.
At the young age of fifteen, Alisha King became a single mother. She truly understands the necessity of having family
and friends to provide support during parenthood. Alisha was fortunate to receive help raising her first child Justin, which allowed her to work part
time jobs and attend college.
Because of her own experience, Alisha wanted to start a daycare center in order to provide an affordable solution for single parents. In 1997,
Alsiha married her co-worker Curtis King, which led to a new residence in Charlotte, North Carolina and the opening of “Step By Step Home Daycare.”
Despite their own financial hardships, Alisha and Curtis always mange to give back to their community. They sometimes extend their daycare service
to after hours, free of charge.
Hazardous mold in the King family home is putting their daughter Laila’s health at risk. Laila has suffered from several asthma attacks, which has
resulted in numerous hospital visits.
Ty Pennington, his design team, local builder American Heartland Homebuilder and hundreds of volunteers will work to save the King family home and
daycare center. The design team consists of designers Michael Moloney, Ed Sanders, Rib Hillis and Didiayer.
